the BLUE journal on my nightstand

"just when the caterpillar thought the
world was over, it became
a butterfly..."
-proverb

On my cute new mint green and cherry wood nightstand is a little blue journal. I got this my senior year of college because I loved the quote on the front...which of course is the quote for today. I still have yet to fill up that journal and I imagine it will take me a little while because it's actually not a little journal...it's filled with hundreds of empty pages ready to be filled. Every day I read the quote on the front of this blue journal and all I can think about is the transition from college to real life.

Let's be honest...for most of us the transition is a little rough. Not getting to sleep in as much, you can't just skip work like you can class, no more date parties,  and for me the worst was no longer having all of my best friends within a 10 mile radius. (College Station isn't the biggest town ever.) As silly as it may be, I would always see this quote and know that one day I would believe it. Because after college it doesn't kind of feel like there's not as much to look forward to.
But, what I'm learning and starting to fully grasp is that the real world can be just as much fun as college...and maybe even more rewarding. You actually have money to do things with...even if it is only paying the rent and bills. Sleeping in on Saturdays has suddenly turned into something truly sacred. The days you do take off of work can be totally A-M-A-Z-I-N-G (especially if you and your mom decide to go Christmas shopping in Canton. ). Let's be honest, weddings are the best reunions. And, when friends are far away you realize who your true friends are and you stay in touch with them...and it gives you an excuse to take lots of road trips. :)

This is me and some of my college roomates taking a little roadtrip to Kemah before school/work started up..

See growing up isn't so bad after all...the tests just get a lot harder and the results carry a lot more weight.

  1. I like your quote Ash! - "See growing up isn't so bad after all...the tests just get a lot harder and the results carry a lot more weight."
