a snow covered megaphone

"Pain removes the veil; it plants the flag of truth within the fortress of a rebel soul.......God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world."
-C.S.Lewis
Sometimes the hardest things in life are often the ones that we least like to admit we're having a difficult time with. Pain forces us to open up or shut down, but both bring attention onto us in a way that causes others to show concern for what is going on in our lives.

It's rare to hear someone say that they learned an important life lesson during a great and prosperous time in their life. The opposite is almost always true. The harder times cause us to be more vulnerable to both God and to others around us. This opens us up to the possibility that maybe we don't have all of the answers and maybe someone else has greater wisdom to lend us. The real question is that when God, or even a friend, speaks to us during those painful times will we retain what we have learned or will we retreat back to our same ole' way of doing things once the storm passes.

I love this quote from C.S. Lewis because it accurately depicts the way human nature responds to advice. Our country is going through, if not just entering into, a painful time right now. This pain is removing the veil of people's true character and maybe awakening within each of us a truth that we never knew before.

I don't know what's a more megaphone moment from God than allowing snow to be on the ground in all 50 states at once. (Except perhaps snow in Texas at the end of March.)
Wake up America.
